Major Market started with a novel idea:  Provide old fashioned service with up-scale products of extensive variety, freshness and convenience.  In 1988 the opportunity arose for Dick London and partner Sam Logan to do just that.  So they combined their (then!) thirty-plus years of talent and knowledge to create their own vision of grocery shopping.  The location:  North San Diego County.

After putting together an outstanding management team, and locking in two new sites, Major Market was positioned to carve its niche.  The first store opened in Fallbrook, November 16, 1988, purchased from the then Lucky chain.  Overcoming tough conditions, union threats and winning over the Fallbrook consumer was a challenge, but a challenge met with enthusiasm by all the employees.  Our team focused on three major goals for the customers:  Keep the store shining clean, offer a large variety of merchandise at competitive prices, give great customer service.  These three goals exemplified our slogan:

 ‘More than a market…..Experience the difference!’

That hasn’t changed since 1988!

Now that Major Market was established, not only with our customers, but with the trade as well, expansion was our next goal.

We designed and built and new store in Escondido that took us to a new level.  It took over another year of persistence and hard work, but by November 1989 the store was ready for the ribbon cutting.  It took off like a rocket and keeps soaring!

Major Market is proud to be a part of our communities and prouder still that we have over 100 associates who have been with us five years or more!  That says a lot for our company and its vision for the future.  We continue to expand categories keeping in turn with our customers’ desires.
